For the final songs, I urge you to listen to ALL of the songs in their entirety. Also please vote in ALL of the polls, not just a few.

Motörhead- "Ace Of Spades"
"Grave Wisdom"- Skinny Puppy
"I'm Shipping Up To Boston"- Dropkick Murphys
Queens Of The Stone Age- "No One Knows"

I'm and absolute homer so Dropkicks it is.
They're pretty cool guys. Saw them play a local fundraiser at Florian Hall and they were requested to sing "Flanagan's Ball" (cuz, well, the song takes place at Florian Hall). It had been so long since they performed it that he forgot the words...the utter embarrassment was hilarious and everyone had a good laugh.

And again. I'm in the absolute minority. =)

QOTSA is losing? Well, that pretty much invalidates any and all results.

PSA:
If you don't vote for Yellow Ledbetter, I will kill you.

Well in all fairness, the song they are up against is pretty wicked.
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:05 |

I joined you in the minority on the first one. No way I could vote against Ace Of Spades though
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:07 |

While you may be true about Dropkick Murphy's... It's QOTSA. That album is the best driving album ever. Especially because it simulates a drive from L.A. to Joshua Tree, CA. It even has it's own DJ's!! cmon
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:09 |
|
Trust me, I'm with you on the whole best driving album thing as I've had some epic drives to it. In the end, both songs are fantastic to drive to.

It's 50/50 now with my vote. Dave Grohl in the band? Got my vote.

I'm right there with you. The songs I nominated were put up against each other or against songs they had no chance in winning against. . . I understand that Skinny Puppy will lose out to Motorhead to the general populace but SP is much better to listen to while behind the wheel. It is "mission music" as I like to call it, along with Front 242, I feel like I have a purpose while driving to SP or 242, I don't know why but it is there and I know that I am in the minority in my musical tastes. . .

Youth > taste?
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:14 |

Totally agreed with you. But I grew up with Skinny Puppy (and a lot of associated acts) through the entirety of the 90s. So I'm heavily biased.
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:15 |

You calling me young? I don't get to enjoy that sensation very often around these parts.
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:16 |
|
No no no... My "youth" has superceded my "taste"...
Yep. I'm calling you young. LOL!
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:18 |

Also, regarding the other two pairings, I have an illogical disinterest for Queens of The Stone Age (plus as a lifelong Masshole I need to support Dropkick), and while I think "Yellow Ledbetter" is by far the better song and that "Red Flag" thing did nothing for me "Ledbetter" just doesn't feel like a driving song.
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:20 |
|
If I were young I'd have no idea who Lemmy is, wonder what's wrong with his face, and vote for Grave Wisdom ;)
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:21 |

QOTSA tickle my pleasure sensors, though Dropkick is awesome drinking music, my standard fallback there is the Pogues.
And when I voted for Yellow Ledbetter it was somehow behind. And again memories > reality.

I discovered Skinny Puppy in my impressionable years in high school around the 1999, but I was around industrial music growing up and eventually became friends with some well connected individuals which allowed me to meet some of my musical heros. But then again I was a fan of NIN from the first time I saw the Closer video on MTV and NIN was my first real concert I went to in 2000 for The Fragile tour. A vast majority of the music I listen to comes from the late 80's and early 90's with a few sprinklings from the late 70's as well.
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:26 |

Not to go to far into things, but I wrote and edited for Industrial Nation, did some work for Invisible Records and kind of lived and breathed the scene for a while in the mid-late 90's in Chicago. =)
I think I know exactly where you are coming from.

That is pretty fucking rad Gamecat!

It was fun while it lasted. It only paid in experience, free swag, concert tickets and the ability to occasionally interview neat people. My music collection was the primary benefactor.

Actually I voted against "Leadbetter" because, as I said, while I think its waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better the other song feels easier to drive to, and as I recall this is supposed to be about finding the best driving song. Much like how "Starfuckers" is fantastic but I wouldn't choose it for the soundtrack for my political campaign. Better overall and better for a specific task aren't quite the same thing.
On a different but related note, some of these songs really make me wish I'd been paying more attention during the nominations. Last week "Seek and Destroy" made me wish I'd nominated "Search and Destroy," and today I wish I'd suggested a different Justice song, because "Genesis" is driving
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:33 |

The Justice tracks I would suggest would closely mirror your recent takes. And as far as driving Pearl Jam songs, there are Rear View Mirror, Leash and Porch. Ledbetter would be WAY down the list for me. But it has a LOT of memories for me, and is hard to vote against.
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:38 |
|
Yes, yes they are. It's especially difficult for me to choose seeing as I'm from Boston and have some serious memories and emotions attached to that song
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:39 |
|
Exactly. Animal, RearViewMirror, Even Flow? Now there's something I can drive to
![]() 12/10/2013 at 17:44 |

By the way, I'm thinking of doing a music showdown early next year that'll be about covers. Which band did the best cover of various songs and were any of the covers better than the original (like Search and Destroy or Enjoy the Silence, apparently bands love doing covers of those). Thoughts?
![]() 12/10/2013 at 18:02 |

weird, I've seen them play 3 times over the past 4 years and they've played Flannigans Ball every time.
![]() 12/10/2013 at 18:06 |

I'm pretty sure you amassed some pretty rare music during that period.
One of my buddies has an amazing collection and it is like going into a candy store full of rare EBM vinyl that I never knew existed before and each time I go back over to his house he has even more rare vinyl to look through.
I just got lucky in making friends with people who ended up having connections with bands that I never thought I would party with.

I'm with you.

I was going to include "Genesis" but "Horsepower" just makes me dump the clutch on launch and kick out the rear on ramps.

It has until midnight.

I voted against ace of spades. Huzzah!

Wrong QOTSA song. I hate 'No One Knows'. Utterly. I abhore it. If they have a song on here, it needs to be 'Go With the Flow'.
![]() 12/10/2013 at 22:38 |
|
There are certainly other QOTSA songs I'd pick first, but absolutely not after the Dropkitsch Murphys.
'Go With the Flow' still isn't the right answer, though. The real answer is that whole goddamned album.
![]() 12/10/2013 at 22:43 |

QOTSA and DM are tied as of now!

I think it's working.

Saw them play it at Fenway so I didn't miss too much. It's unfortunate, though, given the setting...they hadn't played at Florian Hall before.
Or so they said.
